Miscellaneous Information
Elmer was born at Cape Traverse, Prince Edward Island on 14 March 1918. His father, a farmer, was born at Cape Traverse and his mother at Hazel Grove, Carleton, Queen’s County P.E.I. He had one sister, Helen. He attended Cape Traverse Public School 1925-1933 (General) and the Horton Academy 1934-1935 (Academic). He also went to Acadia University 1934-1939 where he studied for his Bachelor of Science degree. He worked at Storms Construction Co. for one year as a grader 1939-1940. His sport interests were hockey, baseball, track, swimming and tennis. |
Elmer enlisted on 21 June 1940 and after training embarked for the U.K., arriving at 3 PRC on 6 March 1941. He was then at 10 OTU on 10 March 1941, 78 Sqn 19 May 1941, and 76 Squadron 24 September 1941. Sadly he lost his life a few short weeks later on 13 October 1941. |
